Evergreen is to order ten or eleven ships of 23,000 TEU. This will be split between five or six to be owned by the group with four or five to be chartered-in. The total amount for these orders could be anywhere between USD 1.3 billion and USD 1.8 billion. At eleven vessels, that higher figure would average USD 160 million per ship.
Alongside its planned order for 23,000 TEU ships, Evergreen will be busy making changes to its container equipment fleet. It plans to sell, for USD 63 million, a portfolio of 29,000 boxes and lease same back. In a different deal, it will place an order with reefer box manufacturer Guangdong Fuwa Equipment Manufacturing for 12,500 containers for a total of USD 40 million.
