Evergreen Marine is pressing ahead with another major fleet expansion, placing orders for 23 new container vessels in a programme valued at up to $1.47 billion.

The Taiwanese carrier’s latest investment, made through its subsidiary Evergreen Marine Asia, covers a mix of feeder and mid-sized ships. Construction will be shared between CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding and Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding in China.

The order includes 16 feeder vessels of about 3,100 teu at CSSC Huangpu Wenchong and seven 5,900 teu post-panamax ships at Jiangsu New Yangzi. Stock exchange filings show the larger vessels are priced between $67 million and $82 million each, while the feeder ships range from $46 million to $56 million per unit.

Combined, the contracts could reach $1.47 billion, although delivery timelines have not yet been announced.

The move forms part of Evergreen’s broader multi-year expansion strategy. In late 2025, the line placed significant LNG dual-fuel and ultra-large containership orders in China and South Korea, reinforcing its position as the world’s seventh-largest container carrier, with more than 50 vessels already on order.
